Sabrina Fernandez
Born
in Cannes, France to French and Filipino parents, 19 year-old Sabrina
Fernandez began taking piano lessons at the age of 4. By the age of the 10,
Sabrina had already made her solo debut recital in
Delray Beach, FL performing a full program on “Historical Instruments” such
as Bach on a two-keyboard manual Harpsichord, Mozart on a London-built 1810
FortePiano and Beethoven on an 1860 Broadwood grand piano.
She made her orchestral debut at the age of 11 performing the Haydn Piano
Concerto in D major, No. 11 with the Pro Arte Chamber Ensemble during their
“Young Artist” concert series. After the success
of her orchestral debut, she was invited back to perform the Mozart Piano
Concerto in A major, K. 488 with the orchestra the year after.
Other notable performances with orchestras soon followed, including the, the
Ars Flores Symphony Orchestra (Florida), the Florida Youth Orchestra, the
Interlochen Philharmonic (Michigan), and the New World Symphony in Miami,
Florida.
A former student of the Music Preparatory at the Conservatory of Music at
Lynn University in Boca Raton Florida, Sabrina has been studying under the
guidance of Mr. Phillip Evans (former piano professor at both Julliard and
Manhattan Schools of Music) from Boynton Beach for the past 8 years. In
summer of 2006, she participated in master classes and performed the
Mendelssohn Piano Trio in D minor in recitals held at the Nice Music Academy
in Nice, France.
Among the most notable awards Sabrina has earned, they include the 2006 New
World Symphony Concerto Winner, 2005 Interlochen Center of the Arts Concerto
winner, 2005 Ars Flores Symphony Orchestra Concerto winner, 2004 Starz of
the Future’s Instrumentalist winner, 2nd place at 2005 Robert Strassburg
Piano Concerto competition and at Lynn University’s Young Artist Concerto
competition in 2004, the 2002 Florida State Music Teacher’s Association
Piano Concerto winner and most recently runner-up at the 2006 Blüthner
Junior Piano competition.
Sabrina has appeared in various newspaper articles, including the
Sun-Sentinel’s Boca Raton Times as well as French-language publications such
as Le Soleil and France-Amerique. She has also been interviewed and
performed Live on “Classical Variations” presented by Florida’s NPR radio
station WXEL, and appeared in the Palm Beach-based, Gold Coast magazine.
Fluent in French, English and Tagalog, Sabrina formerly taught her own class
of private piano students. An avid fan of figure skating, her hobbies
include writing screenplays and in her journals as well as sketching fashion
designs.
