Lyle Manwaring Bio
Yamaha Artist & Clinician

Lyle Manwaring comes from a small community in up-state New York where he began playing the trumpet in the 6th grade.  Following in the footsteps of his father and older brother, who also played the trumpet, music became his life’s passion.  He attended Murray State University on full scholarship and began playing with the Faculty Brass Quintet and local symphony orchestras.  On weekends Lyle studied Jazz with mentor Vincent DiMartino from the University of Kentucky and Orchestral Studies with the late Leon Rapier from the University of Louisville.

After playing on the East Coast, Lyle moved west to Boise, Idaho, where he spent most of his career as a full-time member of the Boise Philharmonic. Also playing for Boise State University Faculty Brass Quintet, Lyle created his own Big Band called “The Wind Machine” and began to freelance.  Lyle’s adventure included meeting, touring, and performing with many influential musicians like Dizzy Gillespie, Gene Harris, Allen Vizzutti, Carl Fontana, Don Menza, Bill  Watrous, Ernie Watts, Doc Severinsen, and Louis Bellson in a variety of cities including Reno, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and Portland, Oregon.  Lyle also played as an ‘extra trumpet’ in the Berlin Philharmonic.

After 15 years out west, Lyle moved back to the East Coast, landing in Tampa.  He currently serves as Principal Trumpet for the Tampa Bay Symphony and is the Fine Arts Chair and Director of the Instrumental Ensembles for Tampa Preparatory School. Lyle is a member of the University of Tampa’s Faculty Brass Quintet and frequently entertains in the Tampa Bay area with his Jazz Quartet.

Lyle continues to share his passion for music with audiences, friends, young musicians, and students.  Lyle loves playing Classical Trumpet, but wouldn’t be complete without the expressive freedom of Jazz.
